Insider's Tip

Melbournians love the Melbourne Cup! It’s the only city that gets a public holiday for a horse race - “The Race that Stops the Nation”. Don’t forget to get dressed up for the occasion. Men - suit and tie. Woman - dress or skirt and a hat or facinator. Melbourne weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for four seasons in one day!
If you want to take a trip out of the city, go to the Yarra Valley Wine Region. Before sampling the large variety of wines, cruise over the Black Spur and check out Steavenson Falls.
