When to Travel to Australia

Australia is a spectacular country on many people’s bucket list. The country is filled with adventure, relax, amazing culinary experiences, and more! If you have been considering traveling to the South Pacific, here are some of the best times to go.

When is the best time to go to Australia?

With over 6,000 miles of beaches, and a continent roughly the size of mainland US, Australia suites any kind of traveler. The team at Down Under Endeavours specialize in luxury travel to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, offering firsthand expertise you won’t find anywhere else. Fueled by our passion for travel, each of our team members regularly visits the South Pacific, venturing far and wide to discover the hidden gems that truly give a place its character. We can ensure you have direct access to the best spots to explore, seeing that we’ve experienced it ourselves!

Best Time to Dive

Good news, divers, you can explore ocean life year-round. Several of the team at DUE are divers, and we can help pair you with the perfect dive experience. The northern reefs, like Cairns and Port Douglas, are best experienced from April to November. The southern reefs, like Whitsunday Islands, are best experienced between October to April. Coral spawning, another amazing experience, occurs during the full moon which is either during November of December.

Best Time to Honeymoon

Honeymooners, come to Australia year round! We do have some insider tips depending on what you’d like to experience.

  • Sydney, Reefs, and the Rainforest is best experienced from May–November.
  • Self driving southern adventure is best experienced from November – April.
  • The Outback is best experienced from March–November, avoiding the heat of the summer.
  • Diving and islands are best experienced year-round.

Best Time to go to The Outback

Northern Australia where the Outback is located has a distinct dry and wet season. The ideal time to travel to the Outback is during the dry season, which normally start in April/May and ends in September/October. During the dry season, the Outback will have a pleasant temperature during the day and mildly chilly at night.

Best Time to Travel with Family

The seasons in Australia are the complete opposite of the northern hemisphere. A typical summer in Australia starts in December and ends in February while a typical winter starts in June and ends in August. When thinking of destinations to travel to for summer vacation, Australia’s comfortable weather will be perfect for families and kids of all ages.
