Itinerary

Tiger Tour 2013 has two set departure dates:  March 11-20, 2013 or April 15-24, 2013.

Day 1
Upon arrival at Cape Kidnappers, you are invited to enjoy an afternoon at your leisure. Your first day in our care concludes with evening cocktails and canapés, followed by dinner in the lodge.
The Farm at Cape Kidnappers – Ridge Suite

Day 2
You’ll start the day with the challenge of our dramatic 18-hole golf course, designed by architect Tom Doak. Carts and green fees are included. After the round, share stories of magnificent shots and beautiful scenery over lunch in our golf clubhouse, in the lodge dining room or packed as a picnic to be enjoyed elsewhere on the property. In the afternoon experience our unique Kiwi Discovery Walk. This is an incredible opportunity to interact with the national symbol of New Zealand, an opportunity that can only be experienced as a guest at Cape Kidnappers. Kiwi expert Dr. John McLennan and his team will lead you on an adventure across the property in search of the New Zealand Brown Kiwi. Using radio tracking and monitoring devices, you will take turns searching for this elusive, flightless creature. Once found, guests will have a chance to get up close and personal with one of New Zealand’s most endangered and rare birds. We recommend that guests choose comfortable footwear and bring a camera for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll end this remarkable day with a wonderful dinner in the lodge.

Day 3
Your final, full day in Hawke’s Bay offers a choice of three spectacular experiences:
Option 1: View the Property by Quad Bike
Take control of the throttle and ride with our guide over this stunning 6,000-acre sheep and cattle farm. These vehicles are an excellent way to explore ‘off the beaten track’ with the aid of an experienced guide.
Option 2: Regional tour of Hawke’s Bay
Cape Kidnappers is an actual landform unto itself, a triangular headland whose white cliffs jut 8 kilometers out into the Pacific from the North Island’s eastern coast. (It was named after an attempt by local Maori to abduct the servant of a member of Captain Cook’s crew aboard HMS Endeavour, during a landfall here on 15 October 1769.) Yet the surrounding bay region is no less stunning and historic. Napier itself, for example, is a time capsule of art deco architecture.
Option 3: Round Two at Cape Kidnappers
For those of you interested in a second chance to tame our championship course, golf may be played at your leisure. Carts and green fees are included.
Lunch will be served at your leisure in the lodge dining room, golf clubhouse or packed as a picnic to be enjoyed during either of the above tours. Pre-dinner drinks and a farewell dinner are scheduled to take place in the Lodge.

Day 4
Following a leisurely breakfast and check-out, we bid adieu to Hawke’s Bay with a private tasting of specially selected wines at Te Awa vineyard, led by the wine maker. Te Awa is situated in the renowned Gimblett Gravels area, known for producing some of the world’s finest full-bodied reds. A leisurely lunch will follow in the vineyard restaurant. After lunch, Tiger Tour guests will transit to Napier airport for a direct flight to Queenstown via private jet. Arrival at Matakauri Lodge is followed by an afternoon at your leisure – relax or perhaps make an exploratory excursion into Queenstown. Pre-dinner cocktails and a welcome dinner are planned for the dining room at Matakauri Lodge.
Matakauri Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 5
After breakfast, explore the heart of Fiordland by luxury helicopter. This is a quintessential New Zealand experience, memory-making at its finest, as you fly over the mountains and enjoy the famous glacier-imbued scenery of Milford Sound, a ‘must see’ for the ultimate New Zealand itinerary. On this trip you will visit coves and beaches seldom explored. Simply put – we’ll treat you to a singular immersion into a primeval world, a paradise for photographers where beauty and ruggedness will blow you away. Your tour concludes at Jack’s Point Golf Club where lunch will be served in the clubhouse, prior to enjoying 18 holes of afternoon golf before returning to Matakauri Lodge. Carts and green fees are included, as are return ground transfers to Matakauri. Situated on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, Jack’s Point is one of the most scenic courses in New Zealand. Pre-dinner drinks and dinner are scheduled for Matakauri Lodge, but meals can be alternately arranged for guests at any one of our favourite restaurants in Queenstown.
Matakauri Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 6
This is the final, full day in Queenstown and we encourage you to experience one of two parting activities – either another round of golf at Jack’s Point or an adventure on The Dart River before we head north. If you’re craving some thrills, the Dart River Experience will not disappoint. The ‘Wilderness Safari’ is a diverse adventure exploring the spectacular ‘World Heritage’ wilderness within Mt. Aspiring National Park. Experience a combination of several activities: exhilarating jet boating, guided ancient forest walk, and backcountry 4WD safari drive. Surrounded by awe-inspiring peaks and mysterious hidden valleys shrouded in native beech forest, your specialist guides will bring to life the variety of landscapes, vegetation and wildlife within this unique preserve. Your guides will also share captivating stories of the original Maori and early pioneers. Return transfers to Matakauri are included. After your chosen activity, enjoy an afternoon to explore Queenstown at leisure. Pre-dinner drinks and dinner are scheduled for Matakauri Lodge’s dining room.
Matakauri Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 7
Following a relaxed breakfast at Matakauri, Tiger Tour guests will check out and transit to Queenstown Airport for the private jet flight to Auckland, where the party will be met by helicopter for the flight through to Kauri Cliffs. After touching down in Auckland, from Queenstown, the helicopter trip from Auckland to Kauri Cliffs will be delightfully indirect. It will follow the rugged western coastline, landing at the historic settlement of Omapere near the entrance to the Hokianga Harbour, where guests will be met by a cultural guide for a tour to Tane Mahuta ‘Lord of the Forest’. The Maori mythology surrounding this majestic Kauri tree and the Waipoua forest will leave you spellbound. Afterward, lift off from Omapere for the quick flight back across to the East Coast, where you will fly over the scenic Bay of Islands prior to landing at The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. Upon arrival, guests are invited to enjoy the afternoon at their leisure. Pre-dinner cocktails and dinner are planned for the lodge dining room.
Kauri Cliffs Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 8
Your first full day at Kauri Cliffs will feature 18 holes of golf, in the morning or the afternoon (carts and green fees are included). The day’s second activity will be an optional farm tour of Kauri Cliffs property, a 6000-acre working sheep and cattle farm. In between, at times convenient to individual guests, lunch will be provided in the lodge dining room, golf clubhouse or packed as a picnic to be enjoyed elsewhere on the property. Pre-dinner cocktails and dinner are planned for the lodge dining room.
Kauri Cliffs Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 9
Guests can choose any two of the following three spectacular activity options either side of lunch. Lunch will be served in the lodge dining room, golf clubhouse or packed as picnic to be enjoyed on your excursion.
Option 1: Experience the Property on Horseback
Viewing the property on horseback is a superb way to discover this vast wilderness. We are pleased to offer this equestrian adventure for all levels of riding ability with Kate Hewlett who has competed and placed in events such as the Burghley and Badminton Horse Trials. Kate was also part of the New Zealand Olympic Team in 2004. Explore Kauri Cliffs farm and its surrounds on gentle horses, picking your way through native forest and our working farm to the beach, where you can ride along the surf.
Option 2: Raising the Sails in the Bay of Islands
Enjoy a relaxing sail on the Pacific Ocean aboard a well appointed 13.5-metre (44 feet) catamaran. Try your hand at sailing by joining the crew, or choose to simply sit back and relax. The coastal waters of Bay of Islands are world-renowned for everything from whales and dolphins to historic dive sights. Transfers are included and refreshments will be served.
Option 3: Round Two at Kauri Cliffs
For those interested in a second chance to tame our championship golf course, golf may be played at your leisure. Carts and green fees are included. Cocktails and a BBQ dinner are planned for the stunning environs of Pink Beach, one of three private beaches at Kauri Cliffs.
Kauri Cliffs Lodge – Deluxe Suite

Day 10
Conclusion of the Tiger Tour includes the option to extend one’s stay at Kauri Cliffs and further explore the property and nearby region, or check out and depart for your onward journey.
