Our Magical New Zealand Package was designed for a family of 4 who wanted to see the spectacular locations used for the filming of Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. This package also allowed them to hit the New Zealand highlights and experience plenty of outdoor and city adventure.
They started their trip with an overnight in Auckland. The next day, they picked up their rental car and drove to Hobbiton to see the set of The Shire. Next, they dropped off their luggage at their hotel in Rotorua before taking an afternoon excursion to the magical Redwoods Forest, one of the locations for Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. They took the Redwoods Treewalk for an unforgettable, suspended bridge journey through the 150-year-old redwood pine trees. After this adventure-packed day, they retired to their stylish and cozy rooms. They spent the next day exploring the cultural and natural attractions of the city with their Rotorua Diamond Pass.
Next on their Magical New Zealand Package, they took a scenic drive through iconic New Zealand scenery, including forests, volcanoes, and rivers, on the way to the charming city of Wellington. While there, they toured Weta Studios, where the dragon Elliot from Disney’s Pete’s Dragon was brought to life. After getting an inside look at the production process of Weta Studios, they explored the scenic city of Wellington for the remainder of the afternoon.
The next day, they flew from the north island to the south island town of Dunedin. During their 2-night stay, they toured the Cadbury World chocolate factory and saw the town’s yellow-eyed and little penguins. From Dunedin, they drove to Queenstown. In Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, the beautiful lakes and snowy alps of Queenstown were picture-perfect for a flight on the back of a dragon. On the way, they stopped at Tanapui, which was transformed into Millhaven for the movie.
They stayed 3 nights at the centrally located Blue Peaks Lodge. They were free to explore Queenstown at their own pace, making the short walk to the city center for art, culture, and delicious food. In Queenstown, it was easy for them to enjoy countless outdoor adventures, from hiking in the gorgeous mountains to kayaking on Lake Wakatipu.
After an unforgettable family vacation exploring New Zealand’s highlights and magical movie locations, their journey came to an end and they began their trip home.
