G’day! It’s Xan and I’m just back from amazing Australia! I had a great time visiting some of our favourite hotels and enjoying our tried and true tours, and also had the opportunity to experience new properties and excursions that I’m excited to share with you.
In addition to visiting Palm Cove and Port Douglas at the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef, I spent a couple of days in the Whitsundays at Hamilton Island, where I enjoyed my first helicopter flight of the trip. Our friends at Hamilton Island Air will take you on a scenic flight via heli to Whitehaven Beach where the white silica beach is truly gorgeous, and while there, you can enjoy a romantic picnic on the beach. Definitely a special experience!
After my stops in Queensland, I moved on to Melbourne. While the weather was definitely cooler (it is winter in Australia, after all), it’s such a walkable city, with it’s unique laneways and arcades, that I didn’t mind. This time I explored with the help of a charming Melbourne local, on a private nightlife tour that takes you to some of the most truly hidden spots – in fact, as we entered one laneway (what Americans would definitely call an alley) – I was convinced he made a wrong turn, but no, we were at the location of the smallest bar in Melbourne, which holds only 10 patrons at a time and where cocktails are a work of art.
I also had the chance to join a small group excursion in the You Yangs, a mountain range just 45 minutes outside of Melbourne, but a world away, where you can see kangaroos, koalas, wallabies and emus, in the wild. It’s a fantastic option for those who are short on time or on a smaller budget, but still want that wildlife experience.
Finally, I made my way to the beautiful city of Sydney, which is where I had the great fortune of taking another heli tour, over the stunning harbour and along the dramatic coastline. The views are spectacular and breathtaking – I do not exaggerate!
If you are interested in learning more about my heli experiences (or any others), I’d love to chat with you! Give me a call at 312.951.8517. Ta!
