French Polynesia – Culture, Cuisine, Must-do’s

G’day mates! English Marie here, this week we would like to share with you, our favorite must-dos for a French Polyneisan vacation!

First and foremost our favorite French Polynesia must-do is staying in an overwater bungalow!

Tahiti is world-renowned for its spas, so make sure to treat yourself to a little rest and relaxation at one of these fabulous sanctuaries.  One of our favorite spas is at the Four Seasons resort in Bora Bora.  It is the tallest land structure in all of French Polynesia.  Can’t you just feel the stress melting away?

Another great must-do is a village tour.  On these tours, you have the opportunity to discover some of the world’s greatest traditional artistry.  From woodcarving and sculpture to ancient tattoo techniques, you’ll find yourself in awe as you are carried by the beat of the traditional pahu (drum).

If you have the time, spend a day on the island of Taha’a, aka Vanilla Island- and boy is it!  Taha’a is the perfect place to find Tahitian Vanilla.  This delicious and fragrant bean is cultivated throughout the island and is sought after by the best chefs in the world!  Vanilla farms are small and family run on Taha’a, so you’ll feel just like a local after chatting to a farmer.

Taha’a is also known for it’s Tahitian Black Pearls.  Another must-do for your bucket-list is to visit a Tahitian Pearl Farm.  Here you can learn about the day-to-day operations of the farm and admire the latest pearl harvests!

If you love history and anthropology, you’re in the right place.  In French Polynesia there are loads of remnants of ancient French Polynesia, the opportunity to tour ancient places, like the open-air sanctuaries known as Marae, can easily be found.

If you’re a foodie, boy are you in for a scrumptious treat!  French Polynesia is supreme for its food, being some of the msot unique in the world with its distinct Polyneisan characteristcs.  Whether you’re going to Jean George’s restaurant at the St. Regis Bora bora, visiting the famous Bloody Marys in Vaitape or just sampling the food from one of the roulette trucks in Tahiti, you are sure to enjoy the variety of fresh food in French Polynesia.
