Gay vacation packages are one of our specialties. Mardi Gras in Sydney is a huge event for the LGBT crowd as they gather en masse to celebrate one of the most colorful events of the year. We created this Australia vacation package for a lovely gay couple from Chicago, they wanted to see the cities and do some wine tasting.  We started them in cosmopolitan Sydney.  Their gay vacation package included the parade and party which is typically the first Saturday in March, at the end of the three-week bonanza of the actual event. Perhaps bigger than New Year’s Eve, the Mardi Gras parade effects every aspect of Sydney during the parade weekend.  Additionally, our guys did Hunter Valley wine tasting, the bridge climb and toured the city.  After Sydney, we sent them to cultural Melbourne, where they did a hot air balloon over the city (the only place in the world where you can do this) and of course, they ended with wine tasting in the Yarra Valley.   For this gay vacation package to Australia, Mardi Gras is yours to experience and is designed to bring you the best of Sydney and Melbourne during this time! Suggested Length: 9 Days

Day 1
Welcome to Sydney, Australia. Sydney is iconic in every way — the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, the zoos and lively neighborhoods, Darling Harbour and its array of quirky dining establishments — all of it is delightful and worth thorough exploration. Your boutique hotel is hip and stylish, overlooking the Sydney Harbour foreshore, city skyline and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Location, location, location!

Day 2
It’s the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and today the city will be seduced and dazzled as it is every year. Cheeky, noisy, colorful, outrageous and getting sexier with age, the parade usually makes its way down Oxford Street, through Darlinghurst, a short distance from your hotel. Over 180 floats and 8500 people fill the streets with glitter today.

Day 3
Today is more sedate, but no less fun, an affair as you do a small-group tour to the Hunter Wine Valley for some delicious boutique wine tastings, enjoy a behind the scenes winery tour, and savor lunch with a glass of fantastic Hunter Valley wine. Hunter Valley, about 2 hours outside Sydney, is well known for its wineries as well as its cheese-tastings, chocolate shops, and gum tree relaxing.

Day 4
Today you’ll get an adrenaline rush as you see Sydney from up above on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. A 3.5-hour affair departing from the historic Rocks district next to Circular Quay, you’ll get suited up and climb the steps and ladders of the Harbour Bridge to the very summit, 440 feet above the water! See the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Tower Eye, and the rest of the skyline from an all new 360-degree perspective. Just make sure your wine tastings the day before didn’t lead to an all-night binge… they breathalyze every climber before the excursion begins! The rest of the day is yours to party on!

Day 5
This is your day at total leisure to enjoy the parts of Sydney that interest you most. Perhaps you’d like us to add a harbour luncheon cruise, or maybe you’d like to dive with sharks at Manly Oceanworld. A trip to the Aquarium, Wildlife World, or Taronga Zoo is also a must-do. The Blue Mountains, 2 hours outside Sydney, are great for wildlife lovers. Some love a surf lesson at famous Bondi Beach, well-known place to see and be seen. Others love the more relaxing beaches that surround Sydney, and romantics love a scenic seaplane flight to a gourmet lunch on the northern bays. There are plenty of activities we can add to keep you busy today, or just relax and explore the city at your own pace. Tonight, we can make reservations at a fab restaurant or arrange tickets for a performance at the Sydney Opera House.

Day 6
A short flight brings you to Melbourne today, Australia’s “second city,” and the hub of chic style and delicious food. Melbourne is the sophisticated alternative to Sydney’s glitz and glamor. Your hotel is an exclusive accommodation: newer, hipper, and elegantly poised on a tree-lined street just steps from fashionable Toorak Road and Chapel Street.

Day 7
Today is yours at leisure to see the best of what interests you in Melbourne. Additional touring suggestions: A relaxing day being pampered in a spa, walking or biking tours of city highlights (the Victorian-style laneways and shopping arcades), a scenic drive along Australia’s Great Ocean Road, delighting in the sight of Little Blue Penguins in their natural habitat, a visit to Healesville Sanctuary to pet a koala and feed a kangaroo, a flight to King Island for a day tasting gourmet cheeses and wines, hiking in Australian National Parks, or helicopter flights over the Twelve Apostles.

Day 8
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel today for a private tour of Yarra Wine Valley, including an early morning hot-air balloon flight over the vineyards. Just 45 minutes away, the Yarra Valley has 40 cellar doors and the ones you visit will be customized to suit your tastes. Combine the larger, well-known wineries with visits to our favorite boutique vineyards. Meet the people behind the scenes without competing with the crowds. Depending on your customized, private journey, you can learn how wine is crushed, fermented and bottled, and also have a lunch of spectacular local produce. You can even visit artisan producers of cheese to make for the perfect gourmet day out. Optional cooking class available. With an early departure, you’ll be back at your hotel by 2:00pm to rest and then visit the nightclubs tonight or sleep off your hangover from the day’s touring.
