The northern reefs, like Cairns and Port Douglas, are best experienced from April to November. The southern reefs, like Whitsunday Islands, are best experienced between October to April. Coral spawning, another amazing experience, occurs during the full moon which is either during November of December.

Best Time to Honeymoon

  • Self driving southern adventure is best experienced from November – April.

Best Time to go to The Outback

Northern Australia where the Outback is located has a distinct dry and wet season. The ideal time to travel to the Outback is during the dry season, which normally start in April/May and ends in September/October. During the dry season, the Outback will have a pleasant temperature during the day and mildly chilly at night.

Best Time to Travel with Family

The seasons in Australia are the complete opposite of the northern hemisphere. A typical summer in Australia starts in December and ends in February while a typical winter starts in June and ends in August.
