Tanzania Wildlife, Culture & Natural Wonders

G’day mates!  English Marie here.  This week we’re excited to share with some of the amazing things about Tanzania!  The largest country in East Africa, Tanzania includes the spice islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia.  It’s also home to Mt. Kilimanjaro- Africa’s highest point at 19,340 feet hight!  From the breathtaking wildlife and nature, to the amazing cultures and beaches, Tanzania is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

While visiting Tanzania, make sure to take the time to get to know the peoples and cultures surrounding you.  There are so many ways to interact and learn from other cultures.  From meeting Maasai warriors dressed in their red cloaks to witnessing the rhythms of traditional dance and experiences and enjoying the hospitality of a local meal, or watching Makonde carvers bring new life to pieces of wood.  You’ll find the people of Tanzania are warm, polite, and have a dignity and beauty like no other.  Immerse yourself in their world and create memories that will last a lifetime.

When you think of Tanzania or East Africa for that matter, do you tend to forget about the Indian Ocean?  Many people automatically think of wildlife safari and the plains, but what about the gorgeous white sandy beaches?  Tanzania’s coastline is full of wonder, with tranquil islands and lazy coastal villages teeming with Swahili culture!  Take some time and relax on a beautiful white beach, watch the sunset’s colors envelope the sky and let your worries melt away on your Tanzania vacation.

There are two must-see natural wonders that we highly recommend.  The first of which is Mt. Kilimanjaro.  As I’ve said earlier in the post, it’s the highest peak in Africa standing at 19,340 feet tall.  It is also one of the world’s highest freestanding mountains.  This iconic mountain is known by it’s snow-capped summit and statuesque grace, surrounded by gorgeous forests.  It’s a hot spot for climbers, which is no surprise when the reward for getting through muddy slopes, rocky trails and slipper scree is the thrill of standing at the very top and witnessing the sunrise over the waking plains.  What more could you ask for after a challenge like that?

Our second must-see natural wonder is the Ngorongoro Crater.  At 19km wide and having a surface of 246 sq km, the Ngorongoro Crater is one of the largest unbroken calderas in the world that is not a lake.  Here you’ll find unbroken walls soaring up as high as 610 meters.  But the biggest discovery of all will be the scene within the crater, as prey and predators alike traverse the open grasslands, swamps and acacia woodlands on the crater floor.  The crater is buzzing with wildlife, the reason?  Water is abundant here, due to the permanent springs and the streams and rivers fed by the crater rim forest run off.  If there were dinosaurs here, you’d think you’d have fallen into the Land of the Lost!  Is it any wonder why this is a must-see?
