Well to start, we’d like to give you some information on Queenstown and the surrounding areas and townships. Located on the South Island of New Zealand, Queenstown is tucked into a charming bay on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Surrounded by the Remarkables mountain range, this city is an all-seasons destination.
Queenstown is known for it’s breathtaking scenery and amazing outdoor activities. From relaxing nature hikes and trails to adrenaline filled adventures there’s something for everyone on a Queenstown vacation. Did you know Queenstown is where the sport of bungy jumping first began? Surrounding Queenstown you’ll find some of the best places to visit, and easy daytrips from the city. Take a day trip from Queenstown and you’ll find nature experiences, wine tastings, and amazing scenery. This region is know as the Southern Lakes Region, and is made up of the following destinations:
Arrowtown– Queenstown’s closest neighbor, Arrowtown attracts many visitors looking to explore the history of there area. Here you’ll find many historic buildings, museums, amazing restaurants, and majestic scenery.
Glenchory– This township was a key location during the filming of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Kingtson– This charming little town is located at the south end of Lake Wakatipu and is home to the famous Kingston Flyer. Just a quick 45-minute lakeside drive from Queenstown, it is the perfect destination for a day trip or a nice stop on your way to Fiordlan.
Fiordland– Take a day trip to Fiordland from Queenstown or spend the night and enjoy the world famous fiords, awe-inspiring scenery, and amazing local wildlife Fiorland offers unforgettable nature experiences. Make sure you get to experience Milford Sound!
Lake Wanaka– Take a 50-minute drive from Queenstown over the Crown Range and you’ll find Lake Wanaka. This charming lakeside town is a great day trip from Queenstown.
