Description: This hands on diving research expedition will take you to the 'Big Blue' - North Horn, Osprey Reef where the currents meet, bringing together large schools of tuna, barracuda and shark. 1000 meter (3000H)walls and regular encounters with species like white tips, grey and silver tip whalers, leopard shark, thresher shark and schooling hammerheads.
* Inclusions: tracking and tagging of individual sharks; recording shark behavior patterns, assisting in photo identification; growth and shark breeding studies; twin share accommodation, meals prepared fresh daily- breakfast on first day until lunch on last day; 20-22 dives; light refreshments after every diving, daily interpretive presentations; tanks, weights, air fills (BYO beer, wine and spirits are accepted).
Itinerary of our Shark cage diving expedition
Day 1
Cod Hole and The Ribbon Reefs: A day of shark diving and a chance to meet the locals! - Potato Cod, Moray Eels, Napoleon Wrasse, Coral Trout, Nudibranchs and Giant Clams. An excellent introduction to the Great Barrier Reef.
Day 2
Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea: The ultimate Coral Sea shark cage diving at Osprey Reef. A diver's dream - 30m + visibility, 1000m vertical walls, Reef Sharks and Hammerheads, schooling Barracuda and Tuna.
Day 3
Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea: Today dive with the Deep Sea Nautilus. After tagging and shark research jump back in and do some diving with them as they make their way back down to the deep. We'll also be involved in a Shark attraction/research at North Horn...
Day 4
Osprey Reef or Lizard Island: Diving or laze on Lizard Island in the afternoon. The water is breathtakingly clear you can see the schools of fish swim by as you kick back on the white sandy beaches. For avid hikers there is a good hike to a lookout also.
Day 5
Ribbon Reefs - Great Barrier Reef: Our highlight's today are coral gardens and over 1500 species of fish on the Ribbon Reefs including several species of shark - what a superb finale!
Day 6
Agincourt Reef - Great Barrier Reef: A morning cage diving will be available before you make your way back to Port Douglas arriving approximately at 5.00pm. (Minimum 24 hours required between last diving and flight)
Suggestions:
- Spend 4 days in Cairns exploring the World Heritage Rainforest, and coastal life.
- Partake in some real action by white water rafting down the awesome Tully River.
- Let us organize a 2 day/1night hike where you sleep in waterproof
hammocks on the peak of a waterfall.
- Join a 1, 2 or 3 day outback tour to the Undara Lava Tubes where you can meet the Aussie wildlife in their natural environment.
