Australian Vacations: Best of Western Australia

Go off the beaten path in Western Australia and soak up the relaxed Aussie lifestyle. Explore the vibrant city of Perth with its beautiful beaches, discover the flavors of Margaret River wine country, and swim with majestic whale sharks—the gentle giants of the ocean—in Ningaloo Reef.

This Australian Vacations: Western Australia Getaway was designed for a couple and their teenage daughter from Houston. The mother had a relative in Perth, so they decided to pay him a visit and then explore some of the hidden gems of Western Australia. Western Australia offers a unique flavor compared to more touristed destinations like Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef. They were able to get a true feel for the Australian culture while seeing iconic wildlife and exploring the pristine beaches of the west coast.

They started their Australian Vacations: Western Australia Getaway in sunny Perth. They had a day at leisure to reconnect with family, visit one of the gorgeous city beaches, wander through the bustling streets and tranquil parks, and just get a feel for this laid back city. During their 4 days in Perth, they enjoyed an afternoon walking tour of the city’s small bars to sample unique bites and drinks. They also took a tour of nearby Rottnest Island, home of the adorable quokka.

Continuing their Australian Vacations: Western Australia Getaway, they picked up a rental car and drove down to the Margaret River Wine Region. This beautiful area is known for delicious wines, farm-to-table food, craft beer, and a laid back surfing culture. They stayed at a fabulous resort right on the beach and visited some of the world-class wineries of Margaret River on a private tour.

Next for their Australian Vacations: Western Australia Getaway, they flew up north to Exmouth, gateway to the spectacular Ningaloo Reef. They loved their stay at the remote “glamping” retreat, Sal Salis Ningaloo, where they were able to unplug and enjoy the pristine beaches of the west coast. For their final day in Australia, they snorkeled in the Ningaloo Reef and swam with whale sharks. These gentle giants have been known to reach up to 40 feet long!

After an incredible week, it was time to say goodbye to Australia. They made the short flight back to Perth and back home, already planning their next family visit!
