Itinerary
Day 1
Depart Sydney on a flight westwards to Bourke nestled on the banks of the Darling River. Here we’ll tour the township that provides a lifeline to many remote stations (ranches) of the outback including a visit to the Outback museum to ready us for the days to come.
Day 2
We continue on towards the interior over remote vastness of cattle stations and deserts that most people only ever see in documentaries. We’ll enjoy lunch at a local pub in a little township in Queensland’s south-west corner. Then on to Birdsville, located on the edge of the Simpson Desert, where we’ll experience what may well be the most isolated town on the continent and home of the celebrated Birdsville Horse Races.
Day 3
Today we take a grand DC-3 flight over the Simpson Desert en route to Alice Springs. Following lunch we fly on to Uluru where we partake on a guided walk through Olga Gorge and discover the magnificence of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Sunset at Uluru (Ayers Rock) completes our adventure today.
Day 4
Enjoy a morning tour around the base of Uluru before returning back to Alice Springs for a tour of this remarkable outback town offering panoramic views of the nearby Macdonnell Ranges.
Day 5
We take to the skies once again, crossing desert and Channel Country and on to Longreach in Central Queensland. We explore the famous Qantas Founders Museum and the ‘Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame’, before finishing the day with an Aussie dinner cruise on the Thompson River.
Day 6
From Longreach we head north-east over rural Queensland and the Great Divide to the jewelled magnificence of the Whitsunday Islands. Touching down on Hamilton Island for lunch, we take time to enjoy the sights before our transfer by launch to beautiful Hayman Island. Here we relax in the luxury of the Whitsundays’ premier resort, surrounded by the sparkling brilliance of the Great Barrier Reef.
Day 7
A day in paradise – luxury, style and beautiful cuisine!
Optional touring: snorkel or scuba diving, ‘Seaplane Reef Adventure’, Whitehaven Beach by Helicopter, Sailing aboard luxury catamaran, sunset cruise, game fishing, ‘The Retreat Spa’.
Day 8
We continue along the coast to Rockhampton (for lunch and a city highlights tour), and then an afternoon air-cruise in unique DC-3 style to Maroochydore on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, a jewel many overseas visitors rarely visit.
Day 9
This afternoon we continue south to Coffs Harbour famous for its banana plantations and fishing. We’ll enjoy lunch and a brief tour of the town before re-boarding for our final flight to Sydney.
