Itinerary

Day 1

Your guide will collect you from Christchurch today and transfer you to your wilderness lodge in Arthur’s Pass. Discover wild nature in the New Zealand Mountains and experience life on a 3,000 hectare nature reserve/high country merino sheep station. Partake in the lodges activities which include hikes, canoeing, wildlife spotting and more. Dinner and Breakfast are included.

Day 2

Half Day private guided Nature Walk has been arranged for you today in Arthur’s Pass. Transfer to Christchurch airport for a short flight to Dunedin. The coastline of the Otago Peninsula which surrounds the Dunedin harbour is spectacular with both sandstone and basalt cliffs with volcanic rock formations leading down to the sand dunes and deserted beaches. Royal Albatross, fur seals, sea lions, shags, penguins, wading birds and native bush make Dunedin and the Peninsula an attractive destination in all seasons.

Day 3

Sunrise Penguin Walk will give you an opportunity to view the Yellow-eyed penguins when they are most active. Witness the sunrise and the start of a new day with a beach walk, penguin viewing and guided nature tour, followed by a hearty breakfast at your accommodations. Your same guide will then take you on a guided tour of Dunedin and Otago Peninsula: including its history and heritage and the magnificent Otago Peninsula with its unique wildlife.

Day 4

Self drive to the delightful Catlins where your accommodation  is located seaside. Explore this region at your leisure. Highlights include heritage trails, wildlife including the rare Hector Dolphins, fur and elephant seals, walks and more. Touring suggestions: explore Cathedral Caves at low tide, ‘Cannibal Bay’ seal colony, Purakaunui Falls.

Day 5

Travel to Queenstown today, gateway to Milford and Doubtful Sound. Accommodation is in an excellent location to explore the city. Touring Suggestions: jet boating; overnight Doubtful Sound Nature cruise; heli day trip to Stewart Island; Cruise/fly day trip to Milford Sound.

Day 6

Full day private nature guide tour including Nature Park and “Kiwi Hospital”. This day will be customized to suit your interests.

Day 7

Return rental car to Queenstown airport and continue your journey. Extensions to the North Island, Australia and Fiji are available. Ask us how we can customize this itinerary to suit your interests.

***Extend this package with a wonderful overnight Doubtful Sound Experience or perhaps Abel Tasman National Park to kayak with seals.
